Pam Assi

BIOGRAPHY

My name is Paramjit  (Pam) Assi and I was born  and raised in Leicester City in the U.K. of an immigrant family who emigrated from the Punjab India.

My interest in art developed at an early age when my parents would take me to the art museums in London during the school summer holidays. I knew I wanted a career in art  and therefore attended the local Art College. Here I studied the history of Art and the work of the Dutch  painter Vincent Van Gogh who was to be my life long  inspiration and gave my style of painting a name, Expressionism. I was accepted to do a degree in Fine Art at Stourbridge Art College but  was unable to pursue a career in art at that time.

I emigrated to Canada in 1996 and worked full time whilst  painting at the weekends. I had a long career in the Financial Sector but it was not until I retired a few years ago that I was able to paint full time.

I have used a variety of mediums over the years starting with Oils  and pastels but now my preferred medium of choice is Acrylics on Canvas. My subject matter has continued to change and evolve  starting with landscapes and still life  but it was the Covid Pandemic in 2020 that was responsible  for a new subject matter in my work.

Being isolated at home the birds in my garden  gave me constant companionship.. They were like children all having their own characters, curious natures and  naughty antics  and they kept me amused, happy and ‘sane’  and that is why I pay homage to them in my work.

As a local Surrey artist  I have shown my work at the  ‘Arts Alive Craft Fair’ in Langley and  exhibited with SAGA at their 'Heart To Home' Christmas Market . I have exhibited at the 'Blue Lotus Art Gallery ' at Guildford Mall and more recently  with 'The WestFine Art Show' in Langley

My paintings are exhibiting at the  ‘Willowbrook Art Gallery’ at Willowbrook Mall.
